Ghana Attractions Whether this is one of your first trips to Ghana or not, there is no shortage of things to do and see in Ghana. Ghana attractions are plentiful. Much of the attraction of Ghana is based upon its legacy as the center of the gold, ivory, and slave trade. However, Ghana also possesses one of the best game reserves in West Africa, a multitude of good beaches, and plenty of hospitality. Among Ghana attractions are; Cape Coast Castle, Mole National Park, Kakum National Park, Coco Beach, Larabanga Mosque, Kejetia Market, Stool Market, Bonwire, Slave Castles, Pendjari Game Park, National Museum, Ahwiaa, Akasombo Dam Paddle Boat tours. A small description of few of these is as below; Cape Coast Castle: This fort was one of the primary slave holding sites in Ghana. The Castle was built for the trade in timber and gold. In 1957, when Ghana became independent, the castle came under the care of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB). The Cape Coast Castle, and other forts and castles in Ghana, are included on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List. The Castle provides some beautiful views of the beaches below and the surrounds of the city. There is a door called door of no returne. When walking through the door, you see hundreds of people laughing, swimming, fishermen mending their nets, women selling things, and it brings a sense of life back to the environment. Mole National Park: Mole National Park is the largest and most frequently visited national park in Ghana. it is reasonably a worth visiting place for tourists but it is more expensive than many other parts of Ghana. Mole has the widest range of wildlife in Ghana. You'll see elephants, antelope, bushbucks, monkeys, warthogs, baboons and other smaller wildlife. It has a restaurant attached which serves reasonable western style and local food, again prices are very high but, this is your only option in Mole. Larabanga Mosque: The Larabanga Mosque is an historic mosque in Larabanga, Ghana. In 2002, it was placed on the World Monument Watch's list of top 100 endangered monuments worldwide. It is believed to have been built by Moorish traders. It is one of the holiest sites in Ghana. Within the Mosque your only realistic option is to walk. It houses an ancient holy Quran which is read once in a year or during a special ceremony. People from other countries and other parts of Ghana as well as Africa come to Larabanga Mosque Specially to attend this ceremony. |
